Ras Nas gets ready to break a decade of silence with his new CD “Dar-es-Salaam”. In this CD Ras Nas has worked with some of the top musicians from Tanzania, Ivory Coast and Norway. The result is a ground-breaking sound that is surely going to please old and new fans alike.
In “Dar-es-Salaam” Ras Nas blends afro and reggae, singing in both Swahili and English, a hallmark which has garnered him respect at home and abroad. The themes range from love to social consciousness with songs like Sweet Rhythms, River Nile, Zakina, Guantanamo and Revelation Times. Among musicians taking part are the renowned Norwegian jazz and blues guitarist, Knut Reiersrud, Ivorian drummer Uriel Seri, bassist Keppy Kiombile from Kilimanjaro Band, guitarist Noman Bikaka from Shada Band and horn players Rolf Erik Nystrøm, and Halvor Voldstad. Norwegian bassist Larry Skogheim also contributes on a number of tracks. 2006 was the year that Ras Nas emerged from a long hiatus. Since his return, he has performed in numerous clubs, venues and festivals. In November last year Ras Nas was one of the headliners at Lahore World Performing Arts and Music Festival in Pakistan, bringing reggae and poetry to Texila! In April this year, Ras Nas was Artist of the Week in Norwegian national radio NRK P2 and he played, with the band, an exclusive one-hour radio concert which was broadcasted on 23rd June. The lineup at NRK Studio was Uriel Seri - drum, Larry Skogheim - bass, Olav Torget - guitar, Ketil Kielland - keyboards, Therese Mungai - background vocals, Dag Pierre - guitar, Rolf Erik Nystrøm - sax and Halvor Voldstad - trombone.
